Membership Communication
- Quarterly Report Volume III Summer/Fall 2025 was sent out.
Chamber Website - update from Martie: The website will be finalized and published by the end of the year. Martie requested that anyone wanting any additional information or details added email her. Eric would like the old minutes added.
Erickson Main Street Sidewalk Snowclearing Pilot Project (led by Chamber): The Chamber is moving forward with the snow clearing pilot project for Main Street at approximately $140/year per 50-foot lot. While most businesses support the initiative for improving walkability and maintaining consistency (especially for vacant properties), there are concerns that sweeping, stairs, and detailed areas won't be covered, making it best suited for blizzard events rather than comprehensive clearing. The street itself cannot be included as requested. To address potential non-payment, the Score Store has agreed to cover up to $1,000 in costs from businesses that refuse to pay. Beatty's will perform the service, with invoices sent to businesses after two cleanings. The Municipality will contribute $1000 including the cost of clearing sidewalks in front of the Municipal Building, Library, and North/South sidewalks by Northstar insurance and Daycare.
Annual Christmas Party 2025: Venue Change: Event relocated to McMunny's due to low ticket sales. Approximately 91-95 tickets were sold. Starts at 5:00 PM, doors open at 5:00. Financial Status: Most payments collected with a few outstanding. Final payment deadline set for end of day today; unpaid tickets will not be honored. One refund requested. Liquor licence cancelled and refunded. Staffing: Amanda and Jody have been offered complimentary tickets (in lieu of their usual paid bar work). Martie will work the door; Shanna will MC. Kristy and Shanna to meet regarding MC responsibilities. Logistics: McMunny's handling all arrangements. Due to limited seating, Kristy will create an arranged seating plan. Some decorations and games will be used. Fundraising: Musical Ride painting auction will be held with proceeds benefiting the Erickson & Area Food Bank. Silver collection also planned for the Food Bank. Discussion Point: Questions raised about whether the event has run its course or if advertising started too late this year.
Erickson & District Santa Clause Parade & Day. Promotion: Shanna will post event poster by end of day Thursday, December 5th, including sponsor recognition. Confirmed Activities:
Parade
Free hot dogs
Bonfire (hosted by Fire Department)
Possibly photos with Santa
Hot chocolate by Lakeside Sweets
Event Structure: Chamber-sponsored event, not Chamber-run. Additional sponsors welcome to add activities or contribute to the event. Contact Shanna for sponsorship opportunities or to add activities.
Airport Area Development:
- Concept presented by Dillon Consulting- Proposal Overview: 40 residential lots (1½ acres each) featuring homes with airplane hangars and taxiway access to the airstrip. Located in area currently earmarked for employment in the new Development Plan, considered a suitable use. Lease vs. Sale Discussion:
Initial preference to sell titled lots to attract buyers
Lease option would avoid subdivision costs and tax implications, keeping entire property under same taxation
Decision not required before conceptual plan stage
Location & Infrastructure: Development would be located north close to the hay field, requiring a new taxiway. Commercial Component: Entire property plan should include commercial sites, particularly important for areas near Highway 10. Motion to produce a conceptual plan at no cost. brought by Laurence, seconded by Martie, approved. Lidar imaging is already complete. Expect concept delivery within the next few months.
Erickson Airport: Rental Agreement
- Erickson Flying Club’s amount was offset by the work the Club did in maintaining the airport. Can this contra system continue? Melinda will update the invoice, removing the rental charge and keeping the property tax portion and will resend.
- Strathclair Choir Event - Event Concept: Bring Strathclair Choir to Erickson Collegiate Institute (capacity 200). Estimated 200-250 tickets, $4,000 gross income, choir costs $800-1,000, potential net proceeds ~$3,000 for Erickson & Area Food Bank. Proposed date: January 2025. Initial Proposal: Chamber as lead host. Laurence suggested sellers receive 15% commission (e.g., ECI Travel Club could earn toward travel fund). Choir performs 8 dates annually; event expected to sell out. Chamber Responsibilities Would Include: Ticket sales and control, advertising, 4-5 volunteers for event night (ushering), coordination with venue. Key Discussion Points:
Partnership opportunity with Clear Lake Country (marketing reach/tourism focus) - would they support Food Bank proceeds?
Could ECI Travel Club run as their own fundraiser (possibly split proceeds)?
Should the Food Bank executive host instead? Currently not positioned to do so due to executive changes.
Venue logistics: setup, takedown, lighting, sound - school involvement/fees uncertain
Core question: Is focus bringing events to town or fundraising for the Food Bank? Choir prefers Food Bank fundraising focus.
Next Steps: Laurence will create a working template once more information received, then circulate for email/Zoom vote. Request: Similar proposals be added to agenda before meetings going forward.
