11:05am Presentation from Erickson & Area Foodbank: See related document provided by EAFB
Emma Monieas and Jae Smith from the Erickson & Area Foodbank had a very enlightening presentation with the goal of increasing awareness, which they will be presenting throughout the area in the upcoming months. Foodbank currently servicing the citizens of Rolling River, Erickson, Onanole, Elphinstone and Sandy Lake. Every Tuesday volunteers meet to pack 60 to 75 hampers which are distributed each Wednesday. Currently they are meeting half of the demand required as they are limited by the amount of donations and funds to purchase food. Donations are received from the general public, Samaritan House (MB Harvest), Co-op, (eg. day old bread). ACC has developed Protein Pantry which the Foodbank will now begin purchasing meat at a discount. They are open to receiving licensed wild meat to distribute. The goal of the Foodbank is to offer a safe, non judgmental place for food and support. A suggestion was made that they set up a donation table in the Artisan’s area of the RCMP Musical ride this July.
11:20am Presentation: Clanwilliam-Erickson Development Plan Matt Gowder of Scatliff Miller Murray, a Winnipeg consulting, firm has been retained by the Municipality of Clanwilliam Erickson to redo their Development Plan from 2008, with a goal of completion in 1 year to 18 months. This plan establishes a vision and sets land use goals. It is a statutorily required document that every planning authority in the province is required to develop. Designates all land in the authority and insures it aligns with provincial land use policies and adopts zoning bi-law that align with the Development Plan. To begin, they will be releasing a public survey, which they have asked the Chamber to distribute to its member base. The intention of the survey is to get a sense of what their objectives, priorities and needs are. Public survey results will have bearing on the final Development Plan. The Chamber feels there is a need for industrial or semi industrial usage, specific multiple family housing zones, and manufacturing zone that would create jobs for people. (factory - manufacture) Additionally, the community needs more residential lots available for sale, keeping in mind that there would be a goal of reducing sprawl. The Chamber advised Matt that they currently have 107 acres at the airport available for development. Matt indicated that the goal would be to assist them in the Development Plan. Once the background report and survey are completed there will be an open house in Erickson sometime in the summer. Any Chamber feedback can be given any time between now and the open house.
